This week we have a post from MARY DOUGHERTY PHOTOGRAPHY. Mary is a wedding and portrait photographer that lives in the rolling hills of western NY. She is a self-proclaimed foodie and an artist at heart that is always striving to create. Her post features our 10×10 book in top grain black leather.
It’s so satisfying to have a finished product. It’s a sentiment I can share with each couple when posting and delivering their wedding images, and once again should they choose to include a wedding album. For some people, an album is superfluous to the digital lives we live. For people like me, who need an escape every once in a while – if not routinely – into the world free of technology, a handcrafted album is a welcome change of pace. It asks not only to be opened, carefully looked through and shared with a group of family or friends, but passed along through generations.
Now, I’m even more excited about the finished product.
I’ve decided to partner with Madera Books to create the wedding and portrait albums that I offer to clients. Aren’t they lovely? Not only do I think they create a better quality book, they have some great customer service which of course makes my job easier. In the end the change was not motivated out of dissatisfaction with my old album company, but the prospect of what Madera could offer me… and in turn you! Take a look:
The album boxes are included and give you a way to safely store or stack your album if needed. I think it’s nice to know it will arrive safe and sound in the box and not be subject to accidents.
The pages have a sturdy core and professionally printed archival photo paper is mounted to each side. This is what allows the layout to be so flexible and include so much variety. On the cover is an inset photo of the couple’s choice, included with every wedding book.
A small seam separates each side of the page. Previously my albums had a fold that allowed no break, except that the image because a little bit distorted as the fold was used and turned with wear. I think the seam is a better lasting solution.
Thank you Mary for sharing your post with us!

Today we have a post by AMBER WOOD PHOTOGRAPHY. Amber is a wife, a mother of 2, a social worker by day and a photographer by night….ok weekends. She sounds like a super hero right? She is based in the LA area, but will travel to preserve the special moments in your life. This post features an 11×14 book with 23 spreads in top grain black leather. Enjoy!
I had exactly 2.5 minutes before the kids got home to snap these photos, so I apologize for the lack of creativity on my part… but who am I kidding?! Doesn’t this gorgeous album speak for itself?!
A little back story. When we got married and found our photographer, one of the most important things we were looking for, aside from a super fabulous and talented photographer to capture our day!, was a gorgeous wedding album. We knew that after all was said and done, years after celebrating what would have been the most fabulous event/day of our lives, the only thing we would have to touch and bring back those awesome memories… was a gorgeous album! So, it was only natural that when I started my wedding photography business, finding a gorgeous wedding album to offer my clients was top priority!
So, when a few local photographers raved and recommended Madera Books for wedding albums, I researched and researched and JUST KNEW that this was the album I wanted my name on! Gorgeous hand-made albums, a close to invisible gutter, lay flat binding and most importantly, AWESOME customer service!
These photos don’t do this beauty justice, of course. But when Sandra told me that, when she got home, she looked at her album over and over.. and over again, and just fell in love with it, I knew (not that I needed validation really, because, c’mon, I’m not blind!), I made the right choice in choosing Madera Books as my wedding album supplier!
Sandra and Stephen ordered an 11×14, 23 spread (that’s 46 pages!) flush mount album! This is 17 lbs of sheer gorgeousness in their hands!
Every album comes with a gorgeous leather, hard protective case ♥ This is no joke people! Lol
You’ll literally gasp when you open it! It’s like opening a breathtakingly gorgeous custom gift on Christmas morning (lol, I’m not joking, I almost cried when I opened it!).
The imprinting and photo inset cover is an optional feature (but a lovely addition, in my opinion).
And the spreads…. Ahhhh, silky soft, super thick pages!
The details ♥
The album truly lays flat and the gutter…. Super thin!
This is how it comes shipped from Madera. Packaged with care for a safe arrival ♥
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I LOVE Sandra + Stephen’s album! I look forward to making so many more for future wedding clients ♥ And although I offer collections that do not include an album, I really recommend that you invest in one! An album is something tangible that you can walk away with. Share with all of your family and friends. The love story of your day. An heirloom to be passed down to your children’s children. If you aren’t able to purchase an album now, (hosting a wedding is pricey, I know! I was a bride before a photographer!), I offer a price guarantee for a year after your wedding date, so make it an anniversary gift
I promise that I’ve never heard one single bride or groom complain that they purchased an album, only regrets that they didn’t!
I still have a couple more sample albums to order (specifically Madera’s Linen and Portrait books) but have another gorgeous leather sample album to share whenever I can squeeze in a quick photo sessionAlthough I love the look of the linen and portrait albums, my ♥ belongs to traditional leather albums.
Thanks for letting me share my excitement over this gorgeous wedding album ♥
Thank you Amber for sharing your lovely pictures!

There are few things in life that get me as excited as when i hear the UPS truck squeal to a stop in front of our house and a little package gets dropped at our doorstep. There is an eager anticipation in the air as we tear open the parcel.. i mean, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good bit’ve mail? Well, the other day we received our first client wedding album, and let me tell you, it is the sleekest, sexiest album i’ve ever seen. We are so excited to be partnering with Madera Books to print our images! As you know, we’re all about beautiful memories, and Madera is all about creating ways to hold those memories. Their albums are killer – with a combination of rich leather and linen covers, and thick pages that will last longer than you will. Seriously.
So, why get a wedding album at all? I’ve noticed early on that clients that didn’t purchase a wedding album turned out to be clients that also rarely ever got around to printing any photos from their wedding or doing anything other than putting that disc up on a shelf and hoping the dog didn’t run off with it. Albums are a crucial, c r u c i a l part of wedding photography. They are a real and tangible way of keeping your memories close. Keeping them on your coffee table. In your office. At your parent’s house. Keeping them in places where they can be poured over again and again, not just in your mind, but with your children, your family and your friends. Your wedding day is the most sacred, most beautiful, most indescribably unreal experience you will ever know. And i hope. Oh i hope, that you will allow us the privilege of putting those memories on paper.
So please. Indulge. And dive into this beauty with us. We know you want to.
Thank you so much Anna + Andrew for sharing your amazing pictures of our linen book.

This week’s post is by COURTNEY SARGENT PHOTOGRAPHY. Courtney is photographer based in Phoenix, AZ. She likes to think of herself as a free spirited explorer and loves to travel. In her post she explains the importance of the leather album and features two of our books: 8×8 brown premium leather and an 10×10 in brown top grain leather. Enjoy!
A few weeks ago I shared with my readers why I always give my clients their high resolution images. I also explaied that this does not mean I do not value the printed photograph, on the contrary, I am a big believer in printing your photos so you can actually hold the precious images in your hands. There is nothing like flipping through a stack of old photos or hanging canvases on your walls to bring back the emotions of a special time in your life. There is also nothing that can compare to seeing the story of your wedding day in a handcrafted archival album. If you don’t have an album of your wedding day, what do you do with your wedding photos? Surely keeping them in a folder on your computer or posting them on facebook doesn’t do them justice! You should be able to cuddle up on the couch with your partner and flip through a handcrafted album, reliving the emotions of your wedding day one page at a time. Seriously, after all that hard work planning your wedding, you deserve this.
Why are albums so expensive?
These are not your parents’ wedding albums. These are professional, custom-designed albums curated with the best storytelling images of your day and crafted in the most meaningful way possible. This is a quality product worth the wait it takes for the skilled artisans to piece it together by hand. No joke, each piece of luxurious leather for every cover is cut by hand by an individual. Each page with archival photographic prints is bound by hand. The photos will not fade over time and the pages will not wear down with every flip. The leather covers are of the finest quality and the pages lay flat for the best viewing experience. The pages are thick and sturdy and the whole album weighs at least 5 pounds. That’s a big hunk of great memories! They are delivered in a custom black leather box perfectly sized for your album.
Is this the album that’s included in your “Album Collection”?
Yes! A 50-page, custom designed, 8×8 leather album is included in my “Album Collection”. Optional add-ons are available such as imprinting on the cover, imprinting on the spine, an inset photo on the cover, size upgrades and additional pages.
What if I didn’t get the “Album Collection” when I booked you, can I still order an album?
Absolutely! You can order an album at any time. I keep your photos forever; so, any of my past clients or even clients who haven’t had their wedding yet, can order an album. Shoot me an email and I’ll send you an album order form.
Do you offer any other cover options besides leather?
Yes! I offer linen and photo covers as well. Keep your eyes peeled for those blog posts!
The beautiful leather covers come in many shades including navy blue, grey, red, yellow, black, wheat and various shades of brown.
The black leather case with magnetic closing cover.
The perfectly sized case for each album.
Photographic prints mounted on thick lay flat pages.
The 8×8 album vs. the 10×10 album.
Logo foil stamp in the back of the album.
The beauty of photographic prints mounted onto thick pages and precisely cut.
Imprinting on cover.
Here are a few of my favorite things! Part of my camera collection, my lovely Eames LCW chairs, and one of my vibrant vintage maps.
